Gifts that Edify the Church

Administration

The ability that God gives to certain believers to clearly understand the goals of leadership and to devise and execute effective plans for the accomplishment of those goals. The ability to coordinate many details, manage people, and organise resources and time for maximum effectiveness in ministry.

These are people that can balance several balls at the same time. Usually they’re very organised. They’re always looking for more efficient ways to do things. People with this gift can work with the details without getting lost.

- Luke 14:28-30; Acts 6:1-7; 1 Corinthians 12:4, 28; Titus 1:5

Leadership

The ability that God gives to certain believers to clarify and communicate the purpose and vision of a ministry in a way that attracts others to get involved. The ability to set goals in accordance with God’s purpose for the future, then communicate these goals to others in such a way that they voluntarily and harmoniously work together to accomplish them for the glory of God.

Acts 7:10; 15:7-11; Romans 12:8; 1 Timothy 5:17

Pastoring

The ability that God gives to certain believers to care for the spiritual needs of a group of believers and help equip them for ministry. The ability to nurture a small group in spiritual growth and assume long-term personal responsibility for their welfare.

The word pastor means "to care for". This is a gift, but it’s also a role.

John 10:1-18; 1 Timothy 3:1-7; 1 Peter 5:1-3

Teaching

The ability that God gives to certain believers to educate God’s people by clearly explaining and applying the Bible in a way that causes them to learn and grow in their relationship with God. The ability to equip and train other believers for ministry.

Have you ever been taught by someone that didn’t have a gift for teaching? When you have a bad teacher, your mind wanders. When you have a good teacher, you're present and engaged. A good teacher is systematic about their teaching. They are clear so that their students can follow.

- Acts 18:24-28; 20:20, 21; Ephesians 4:11-13; 1 Corinthians 12:28
